Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum

The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum

There's much more to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum than just Grasselli Tower. The museum is dedicated to preserving the history of northwest Indiana's railroads through interpretive displays, a depot museum, a working backshop and our popular tourist trains that operate May through October.

The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in North Judson, Indiana. With hundreds of members and a core group of dedicated working members, HVRM maintains an impressive collection of historic railroad artifacts, rolling stock, locomotives and other equipment.

If you're visiting northwest Indiana and would like a fun-filled day for the whole family, stop by and enjoy the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in historic North Judson! The museum is open Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Central Time.

C&O 2789

The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is the home of C&O #2789 - a massive superpower steam locomotive built by Alco in 1947. Currently awaiting restoration, this Kanawha-type 2-8-4 steamer once powered heavy trains over the Appalachian Mountains. This was the first piece of equipment owned by the railroad museum.

NKP 765 in LaCrosse

In 2009, the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum hosted Nickel Plate Road #765 from the Fort Wayne Railway Historical Society. The big steamer operated a number of excursions over the former C&O mainline between North Judson and LaCrosse, Indiana in May and June.

Working on Locomotive

The museum is operated and staffed by volunteers from within the membership. A great deal of work goes into maintaining our historic railroad equipment in the backshop. Without a talented team of volunteers, the museum would not be able to operate properly. HVRM President Jason Annen grinds away on one of our diesel locomotives.
